Capital police devise SOP for security of banks

Islamabad Police have prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure effective security arrangements for banks, money exchange offices and important commercial centres.

This SOP has been chalked out following the directions from Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan under supervision of AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri who held different sessions with SDPOs, SHO and other relevant stakeholders to finalise it.

The AIG (Operations) said that it has been directed to all SDPOs and SHOs to arrange meetings with senior officials of administration from banks and money exchangers and ask them to follow SOP in true letter and spirit. He said administration of banks and money exchangers should be asked to install CCTV cameras inside their offices and parking lots. Banks should install alarm to be linked with nearest police station or other bank. He said two or three trained security guards having bullet proof jacket and helmet should be deployed in each bank and money exchange office. He said all banks and money exchange office in one market should have contract with same security company having similar responding unit. In case of cash transfer, security guard should be present in the vehicle having fixed cash box.

Temuri said that banks and money exchange offices should have bullet proof glass box where security guard, alarm system and CCTV cameras system should be placed to effectively tackle any untoward situation. He directed all police officials to hold meetings with traders in markets in their respective areas and take steps to ensure effective security there.

In case of any bank robbery in future, the SHO of respective police station will be responsible and disciplinary action to be taken against him.

Temuri said joint patrolling by teams of Islamabad police, Ranges and Elite Force has been started. He directed all SDPOs and SHOs for effective steps against street criminals, car thieves and receivers and ensure crackdown against absconders and those involved in criminal activities. He said that performance of each SHO would be reviewed in future and those having poor performance would have to be accountable.
