Punjab government had constituted a project team for speedy completion of two coal power plants of 660 megawatt each at Sahiwal, said Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while chairing a meeting on Monday.
Shahbaz hoped that coal project of 1320 megawatt would be completed in two and a half years, adding that the government was implementing a solid strategy for coping with the problem of energy shortage.
Shahbaz Sharif said that agreement of two coal power plants in Sahiwal had been given final shape with a consortium of Chinese companies, while its feasibility report had been prepared.
He viewed that the project would usher in a new era of development and prosperity in the area, citing that Rs 150 billion investment would increase economic activities and create new jobs.
The chief minister also constituted a cabinet committee to review progress and other matters relating to the project.
MPA Pir Khizar Shah Khagga and officers of relevant departments were also present.
