Pakistan People’s Party Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo described the despicable attack on anchor person Hamid Mir as attack on media and indeed on democracy.

He further said that the attack was undoubtedly perpetrated by the anti- Pakistan and anti- democratic forces and therefore must be exposed and brought in the dock sooner than later. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party and its leadership’s commitment to democracy and freedom of expression were unequivocal and its track record was a shining example which was worth pursuing.

He recalled that the PPP decided to accept the results of May 2013 elections just for the great cause of the continuity of the democratic process in the country despite serious allegations of rigging flying thick and high. It was a great gesture of the PPP top leadership of doing national politics rather than the party politics, he observed.

While underscoring the importance of the freedom of media, Manzoor Wattoo said that democracy and freedom of media were inseparable and indeed were two sides of the same coin. They co-exist and supplement the cause of each other for building a pluralistic society based on tolerance, equality and inter-faith harmony.

It is for this reason that the PPP considers democracy as non- negotiable and must be protected at all cost come what may, he observed.

The PPP stands for the empowerment of the people and so does the free media adding both are promoting the same cause in unison.

  1. Democracy and a true and free media. How tee is pakistans media. With foreign sponsors largely anti Pakistan and anti muslim idealogy sponsors. I’m by an advocate of state media – but in pakistans case we should be looking closely at art, geo, and their roots. I mean – does anybody really trust what their watch, read or hear anymore? It’s just all publicised ruccish and lies designed to create drama for the drama hungry masses. Let’s return to truthful honest reporting of events – no matter how daring unoriginal or risky. Most of what we see today is agenda guided media. Not true or honest.
