Former interior minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said that the Taliban cheated the government by buying time to strengthen themselves.
Malik said that he could not doubt the sincerity of the government which started talks with the Taliban to restore peace in the country but the Taliban engaged the government in dialogue process just to buy more time to strengthen themselves.
Malik said that he had no doubt over the intentions of the current PML-N-led government; however, the TTP had been provoking the government by ending ceasefire agreement.
Malik said the TTP terrorists did not want peace and it was clear that they wanted more time to go back to their safe hideouts near Afghan border once sown melts in those remote areas.
The PPP senator said the TTP has condemned Islamabad fruit market bombing and termed killing of innocent people as haram (prohibited) in Shariah but what about more than 50,000 people killed in terrorist attacks.
He said Taliban have made release of their several prisoners possible during so-called dialogue process but did not release even a single civilian hostage.
Malik said after release of their prisoners they have become stronger and will carry out terror attacks with more power.
He said that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is a terrorist organization and its activists should be put behind bars.
The PPP leader said that the Taliban deserved to be in jails and they should also be beaten up in police station.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was “anti-Islam” and against the country, Malik said. “I’m saying openly that I do not see terror in Pakistan coming to an end,” Malik said, advising the government to keep strict security measures in place during dialogue with the Taliban.
Malik said the government should be prepared for an effective action against the Taliban to curb terrorism, adding that all political parties should support the government if it takes strict action against terrorists.
