Sindh govt responsible to probe attack on Mir: Rashid

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday visited TV journalist Hamid Mir at the Aga Khan Hospital.
Speaking to reporters, Rashid said the attack on Mir took place in Karachi and it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to conduct an investigation. The minister added that the federal government will provide full support during the probe.
The talk show host was targeted on Shahrah-e-Faisal when he was on his way to office from airport. The attackers fired shot on his vehicle, leaving the journalist critically injured.
On Sunday, Rashid arrived in Karachi and visited the private hospital to enquire after Hamid Mir’s health.
On this occasion, the Information Minister said the responsibility of investigations into the attack preliminarily lies on Sindh government. “We all will have to counter the elements who want to silence the voice of Hamid Mir and impose their agenda through gun,” Rashid said.
The minister said the government was working to strengthen democratic culture in the country, which he said is the name of tolerance and peaceful interaction with each other.

Rashid said it would be premature to say anything about the perpetrators before investigations. He lauded Mir’s struggle for strengthening democracy and freedom of expression in the country and said we will have to support his efforts.
