Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf arrived in Karachi on Saturday evening to stay with his daughter Ayila and also seek medical treatment.

Aasia Ishaque, secretary information of Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League, said that he wanted to spend time with his family as his wife was away in Sharjah to care for his ailing mother.

He is also expected to undergo some tests at the PNS Shifa hospital in Karachi. Gen Musharraf’s requests to get his name off the Exit Control List (ECL) have not been successful and the government has not permitted him to leave the country to meet his mother or seek medical treatment.

He was indicted on March 31 by the special court trying him for high treason but the court did not regulate his custody and said he was free to move about provided he appeared in court when it was necessary. The court had declined to pass orders on removing his name from the ECL saying it did not have jurisdiction.

Gen Musharraf was diagnosed with multi vessel coronary disease by the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi where he was admitted since January 2. He left AFIC earlier this month and returned to his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad. Police have provided tight security in Karachi for the former military dictator.
