ISLAMABAD
The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s petition against the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
A three-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk was hearing the petition. During the hearing, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah’s counsel Aitzaz Ahsan said that Shah supported the NAB chairman’s appointment and the petition was not hearable.
Ahsan argued that the president was bound to act upon the prime minister’s advice after the passage of 18th Amendment.
“When court takes notice under Article 184, it restricts one’s right to appeal,” he said.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim said that the court was given this right by the constitution.
“If there is any review petition, it should be turned into an appeal. I had given this proposal to former chief justice also,” Aitzaz said.
Khawaja Haris, the counsel for federal government, said the opposition leader was backed by all opposition members sitting in the House.
Later, the court dismissed the petition.
