Punjab PTI President Ejaz Chaudhry on Friday flayed the increase in price of 20kg wheat bag in Gilgit Baltistan.
He said the government has taken subsidy back on wheat in GB because of that the price of 20kg wheat bag has increased from Rs 850 to Rs 1,470.
He said the PTI would stand with the GB Awami Action Committee against this injustice. He demanded that the the government take back the decision and give subsidy.
Talking about a survey on wheat production in Punjab, he said that it was alarming at how in many cities, including Gujranwala, the wheat producing land had been converted into housing societies by the PML-N government in the last one year.
He said that in Gujranwala 211,000 acres of wheat growing farmland had been converted into housing societies during the last year which was used to be producing 30.1 metric tonnes of wheat. He said that this speaks volumes that Gujranwala MNA Khuram Dastageer Khan, who was also the trade minister, was destroying agriculture by building housing societies and creating a shortage of wheat.
