After education, CM plans to reform health sector

For the purpose of improving performance of the Health department and providing modern health facilities to the citizens, the Punjab government has deiced to evolve the Punjab Health Reforms Roadmap which will be implemented on the pattern of the Punjab Schools Reforms Roadmap, said Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while presiding over a high-level meeting on Wednesday. Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Punjab Assembly Member Aysha Ghaus Pasha, chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman, additional chief secretary, secretaries concerned and senior officers attended the meeting. Special representative of British department for International Development (DFID) Sir Michael Barber, DFID head Richard Montgomery, DFID health advisor, experts of roadmap team and other representatives were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said that healthy citizens constitute a healthy society. He said that the Punjab government is implementing a solid programme for development of the health sector and provision of modern medical facilities to the masses. He stressed the need for setting targets for the provision of best health facilities to the citizens and moving forward in this direction. He said that there is a need for expanding the scope of coverage of vaccination programme to save the citizens from diseases. He said that special attention will be paid to mother and child health under the Punjab Health Reforms Roadmap.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the basic health centres will be improved and availability of necessary medicines and doctors will be ensured. He said that digital monitoring system will be evolved for the implementation of the Punjab Health Reforms roadmap.
