SC orders govt to register case under ATA

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the Sindh government to register a case under the anti-terrorism act against the murder of Perveen Rehman, social worker of Karachi, and present the copy of FIR before the court on May 6.

A 2-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk issued these orders on the report of commission in Islamabad on Tuesday. The court was told through this report that social workers in Karachi were being targeted and there was a need that security be provided to these workers. Responsibility was not discharged in a befitting manner during the course of investigation, therefore, police was required to conduct more investigation, the report said. Investigations should be assigned to any officer of the federal government and the case be registered under anti-terrorism act, it was requested in the report.

The court, while ordering for registration of a case under the anti-terrorism act, sought reply from the Sindh government till May, 6.
