PESHAWAR
The banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has agreed to extend its ceasefire period, which expired on April 10.
A private TV channel reported that the decision was taken by the Taliban Shura at a meeting in North Waziristan Agency on Monday.
Taliban factions have given consent to extend the ceasefire. A formal announcement in this regard will be made by TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid.
The meeting, headed by Khalid Haqqani, reviewed the government’s response to their demand for the release of non-combatants and establishment of a peace zone. Several Taliban commanders and leaders attended the meeting.
Moreover, reports say various Taliban factions expressed their reservations about the government’s failure to set up a peace zone in the tribal region.
Earlier, on Sunday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan refuted reports that there was any deadlock in talks with the Taliban. He had said that a third round of comprehensive talks between the government and Taliban negotiators would kick off in a couple of days.
how many more hardcore taliban terrorists were released under the category "non – combatant" to roam free and create havoc all over pakistan whilst nawaz and his family sleeps soundly in his fortress .The price of ceasefire extension ,this impotent govt has to pay!
It is important to remain optimistic in regards to our shared peace objectives. We have made a lot of sacrifices, lost many brave soldiers and innocent people, in our shared quest for peace. Pakistan in particular continues to face the wrath of terrorism. The ongoing internal rift between the Taliban certainly complicates the peace negotiations. But the need of the hour is to remain encouraged and hope for the best. According to various news sources, the TTP seem motivated to carry forward the peace talks. We simply wish to see a peaceful Pakistan for the betterment of the region. We stand by the government of Pakistan and fully support their efforts to restore peace in the country.
