ISLAMABAD

Long luxurious kimnoes from Japan, wired Cuban cigar smoking faces with untrimmed and unkempt (Che Guevara like) beards, haughty heads with Kippah (head coverings), kosher foods and drinks of Israel, tall flaunting pyramids and fossilized mummies from Egypt, rustic and nonchalant cow boys from Chile, cuisines, beverages, cutlery, attires, decors, fauna, flora, climate and gibberish sounding verbal diplomatic exchanges from distant lands of the world were few of glimpses that turned a local event to become glocal phenomenon (connection between local and global).
Such was the setting at global village (a social activity in which students representing different countries have to put up a stall depicting their respective country) which was arranged in connection with the NUML Model United Nations (NMUN) on concluding day of NMUN 2014 at National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad.
The Stall depiction at Global Village included proper cultural orientation as well as the taste, the music, national dresses, food, and all the relevant of the country to present a best picture of the country.
Closing sessions of UN Committees including UNSC, DISEC, SOCHUM, SPECPOL and ECOFIN on the last day of the NMUN 2014 brought some hectic informative debates with climaxes and anticlimaxes.
The delegates in simulated sessions of different committees were pitched into some rigorous debates and employed their diplomatic and debating skills to get their point across and presented their position papers on issues including ‘Right of self determination for Kashmiri populace’, ‘US-Iran nuclear rapprochement’, ‘Nuclearisation of the South Asia’, ‘Human Rights issue in Pakistan and World response’ and ‘Globalisation and its effects on developing countries’.
A drama festival, Fusion Night, Certificate Distribution ceremony and most awaited dinner on the theme ‘masquerade’ were few of delights that provided a mixed baggage of erudition and recreation to students. Sarwat Rauf and Ashfaq Ahmed were the Conference Coordinators and they left no stone unturned to ensure every facility and assistance for the smooth progress of the Conference.
