Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered federal government to appoint Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) within 15 days.
IHC Chief Justice Shaukat Siddiqui heard the case and issued the ruling.
According to reports, Justice Siddiqui enquired about the appointment of HEC chief from secretary education. He asked why not the chief has been appointed so far even after assurance by the government to court.
The secretary told the court that a summary on new chairman’s appointment was sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who rejected it and formed a committee under Khawaja Asif for the high-level appointment.
At which, Justice Siddiqui observed that the HEC is being run through temporary policies and non-appointment of the commission chief “is slap on the face of judicial system.”
The IHC CJ issued orders to the federal government for appointment of the HEC chief within 15 days.
