PTV, CCTV sign co-op agreement

The Chinese Central Television (CCTV) and Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation in the field of broadcasting that would enable CCTV News and CCTV 9 documentary channel landing rights in Pakistan.

According to the press release released Sunday, the MoU was inked by CCTV Vice President Zhu Tong and PTV Managing Director Muhammad Malick. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khalid also witnessed the signing ceremony.

PTV MD Muhammad Malick in his remarks following the signing ceremony said: “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, taking special interest in fostering institutional media cooperation, has directed Pakistan media authorities to facilitate China Central Television (CCTV) to commence its transmission into Pakistan at the earliest by enabling it to secure landing rights in Pakistan”.

Amongst other developments on the China-Pakistan media cooperation, both television networks would be sharing programming content including that on dubbed entertainment as well as Chinese language learning on a regular and reciprocal basis, Malick explained, adding that he deemed the MoU, soon to be followed by a formal agreement, to be a milestone in media relations between the two countries.

Zhu Tong said that he was excited seeing media and broadcasting cooperation moving from strength to strength and he looked forward to seeing mutual exchange of programs increasing rapidly in the near future. Ambassador Masood Khalid, on the occasion, said that he was heartened to see China Pakistan media relations gaining momentum and described the event as significant in Pak-China media cooperation. He said that he looked forward to the MoU taking the shape of a concrete agreement and opening up new vistas of cooperation in broadcasting media.

The CCTV is the predominant state television broadcaster in mainland China. The CCTV has a network of 45 channels broadcasting different programmes and is accessible to more than one billion viewers.
