LAHORE
Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday said that the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf was not linked to the army, a private news channel reported.
Talking to reporters, he said that the retired general remained in politics after his retirement from the army, adding that those who were trying to link the case to the armed forces intend to cause a political crisis in the country.
“Pakistan cannot bear these kinds of conspiracies,” he said.
Talking about peace talks with the banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Iqbal said the government decided to hold peace talks instead of a military offensive for the sake of peace in the country.
Iqbal said those who tried to involve the Pakistan Army in the high treason case against Musharraf have committed a serious crime.
He advised Musharraf not to put the army’s prestige at stake in his personal matters as he is no more related to the army but leading a political party.
He said that Musharraf’s lawyers wanted to create chaos and crises and termed it as a worst conspiracy against democracy, adding that conspiracies are being hatched to give Musharraf a safe exit.
Iqbal said, “It is our constitutional obligation not to compromise on political stability.”
The minister said that separate laws should be made for the rich and the poor if did not face the law. He said that the PPO was an extraordinary law and is made for extraordinary circumstances.
“PPO will be promulgated for two years only for better results in the interests of the country,” he added.
