India test-fires Agni-I ballistic missile

NEW DELHI

In its first night time trial, India test-fired Agni-I ballistic missile from a test range at the Wheeler Island off Odisha coast near Bhadrak district, officials said on Saturday.
The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of India conducted the test at 9:10pm on Friday as part of regular training exercise. “The missile took off in a perfect launch and reached the target point in Bay of Bengal meeting all the mission objectives successfully,” said Ravi Kumar Gupta, spokesperson of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO).
The medium range missile can strike a target at 700 km away.
It was first test-fired from the same base on January 25, 2002 and is now part of the armed forces arsenal. Several trials of the missile have been conducted since then, but this was the first night trial to reconfirm its technological parameters.
