Govt says no rift with army

Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that all institutions, including the Pakistan Army, are working under the domain of the Constitution.

Talking to the journalists on Friday, he dismissed reports of differences between the government and the army or a demand of resignations from some federal ministers. He said that these rumors were being spread by those elements which “thrive under dictatorial rules”.

The minister said that the Pakistan Army has always given sacrifices for the defense of the homeland. The nation is proud of these sacrifices and no patriotic can point finger on the Army.

To a question, the information minister said the economy had strengthened due to positive policies of the government. He said that stock markets were witnessing an upward trend and the value of rupee had also strengthened against dollar. He said the government was committed in ridding the country of energy crisis and inflation.

Regarding former army chief Pervez Musharraf’s trial, Pervaiz Rashid said that the case was before the court and everybody will respect the court’s verdict on it.
