- We don’t know what to talk about anymore, says Prof Ibrahim fearing a deadlock in peace talks
Member of the Taliban dialogue committee, Professor Ibrahim said Friday that there was a deadlock-like situation in talks between the government and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
During an interview to a private TV channel, Prof Ibrahim said that the army was not happy over the release of Taliban prisoners. He attributed the army’s reservations to the deadlock in peace talks.
He said that he could only pray that that talks start proceeding in the right direction, adding that he was trying his best to make the talks successful.
The government committee and TTP Shura have only had one round of talks. As the 40-day ceasefire announced by the TTP expired Thursday, the TTP has called for the release of their non-combatant prisoners and establishment of a peace zone where talks will be held. The outlawed organisation has not released any non-combatant prisoners in their custody while it has also claimed that their prisoners released were not those who were mentioned on the list provided to the government.
Professor Ibrahim said that the government must show seriousness for success of the dialogue process. He said no contact has been made with the Taliban leadership as yet, however, date and venue of meeting with Taliban Shura will be decided soon. Dialogue between Taliban and the government is the only solution to bring peace in the country, he said.
