A GPS study conducted by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has revealed that Gulshan-e-Iqbal had become reservoir for dengue larvae in the city.
In a report submitted to the Sindh government, the study revealed that different water reservoirs in Gulshan-e-Iqbal had become dengue larvae breeding areas, posing serious threats to the health conditions in the metropolis.
The meeting was told that 178 dengue cases had been reported in Sindh in 2014, out of which only 9 were reported in interior of Sindh. Speaking on this occasion, Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani warned that if prompt measures were not taken, a Thar like disaster might take place in Karachi.
In the meeting, WHO representatives asked government to launch dengue awareness campaign in the province.
