CIA tasked to probe 6 targeted killings in two days

The city police Thursday constituted a special investigation team to probe the incidents of targeted killings that claimed six lives during the last couple of days in the violence-prone metropolis.

Dr Hyder Raza, Ali Ahmed, Riaz, Imran, Advocate Syed Waqar Nadeem Zaidi and Waqas Shah were targeted and killed by unknown assailants on Thursday and Wednesday in different city neighbourhoods.

“A special investigation team has been constituted by Addl IGP Karachi Shahid Hayat,” said a police spokesman Thursday. The team, he said, would be investigating and reporting the murders under the direct supervision of DIGP CIA Sultan Ali Khawaja.

Khawaja included in his team SSP East Pir Mohammad Shah, SP SIU Farooq Awan and SP Investigation East Abdul Hameed Khoso. The DIGP CIA would be allowed to take any other police officer in the team from any unit of city police who might be able to assist them solving these murder cases, the spokesman said.

In a related development, City Police Chief Hayat has also announced a reward of Rs 500,000 for those who would help the police arrest the criminals behind any of these cases of targeted killings.
