FAISALABAD-
Leader of Ahl e Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi on Wednesday secured a National Assembly seat after an election tribunal disqualified Pakistan Muslim League MNA Sheikh Akram from NA-89 constituency of Jhang.
Ludhianvi, being the runner-up candidate, was declared elected.
The order by the electiontribunal comprising Javed Rashid Mehboobi read:
“Election of the returned candidate Sheikh Muhammad Akram from NA-89 (Jhang-I) has been declared void and simultaneously, the petitioner Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi, has been declared as duly elected.”
Sheik Akhram’s victory in May 2013 general elections was challenged by the ASWJ leader and Abdul Ghafoor Jhangvi on charges of poll rigging and bank loan default.
After the tribunal’s order, security was tightened in Jhang to prevent any untoward incident.
