Ahead of Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and former president Asif Zardari’s visit to Lahore, party’s provincial chief Manzoor Watto met former prime minister and PPP Senior Vice President Yousaf Raza Gilani Wednesday in a move to galvinise support prior to the forthcoming visit of party.
As per sources, reports of certain organisational changes on the provincial level are expected during this visit of the party’s top leaders.
Wattoo met Gilani at his Defence residence over a lunch. During the meeting, the main agenda of the two was to draw up strategy for the upcoming visit of Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari.
However, talking to Pakistan Today, Gilani said the meeting was held in pursuit of the decisions of the last Central Executive Committee meeting, held in Larkana recently.
“The main agenda of the meeting was to explore ways and means to make the forthcoming visit of Bilawal Bhutto and former president Asif Zardari to Punjab more meaningful and productive for the party to stage a comeback,” Gilani observed, adding that the two leaders also discussed suggestions on how to activate the party at the grass-root level.
It is pertinent to mention that Gilani has always been a key supporter of Wattoo. According to party insiders, even Wattoo’s elevation to the office of Punjab’s president was made on his recommendations.
“This must be a good opportunity for Wattoo to sound out Gilani and seek his support, as Gilani recently held a meeting with Asif Zardari,” said a party leader privy to the meeting. He went on to inform that some party leaders are of the view that it would be quite futile to bring changes in the party ranks at this point in time.
