TDAP scam: FIA summons Gilani

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued a legal notice containing 14 questions to former prime minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani on the alleged embezzlement of billion of rupees in Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).

The FIA through its notice has also asked the former PM to appear before its investigation team on April 11 to explain the facts surfaced in the financial scam.

A year ago, the Karachi FIA crime circle had initiated investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Rs 7 billion from national exchequer in the name of freight subsidy and other schemes during the five years of the previous regime of PPP.

The investigation revealed that top officials of the TDAP, owners of paper companies and middlemen of politicians had been involved. Subsequently, two chairmen of TDAP, several senior officers, representatives of the audit companies, middle-men of politicians and bankers have been arrested so far and 70 cases have been registered against them in this scam.

The FIA has also arrested personal secretary of former commerce minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim on availability of evidence on his involvement in this scandal. A legal notice has also been issued to Makhdoom Amin Fahim of the PPP.
