KARACHI
As many as six shopkeepers were arrested and sent to jail during the crackdown launched in Karachi to check the illegal profiteering, and violation of the notified price list of essential commodities.
This was said by Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui in a statement on Wednesday.
He said that 110 shopkeepers were challaned during the crackdown while Rs 206,600 were recovered in term of penalties imposed on the profiteers, hoarders, and violators of price list.
He said total 90 milk sellers, a fruit vendor, a vegetable merchant, five grocers and 12 chicken sellers were challaned for selling essential commodities on the prices in violation of the notified price list.
The action during the crackdown against profiteers was taken in the areas including Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Coloney, Shah Faisal and Korangi.
He has directed the officials concerned to control prices and ensure the sale of commodities in accordance with the notified price list to provide maximum relief to the people.
The commissioner Karachi has also assigned duties to the administrative officers at the time of auction of fruit and vegetables to check and control the artificial shortage of fruits and vegetables.
