Shia doctor gunned down in Karachi

A general physician was shot dead in an apparent act of sectarian violence near Darul-Sehat Hospital in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi on Wednesday.

The duty officer at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station said the victim, 50-year old Syed Haider Raza, was getting in his car outside the hospital when unidentified armed men shot at him. The suspects shot thrice before escaping. He added that the victim was in-charge of the emergency department at the Darul-Sehat hospital and a professor at the university.

A spokesperson of Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen claimed that the victim belonged to Shia community and it is a second such incident in last two days. He said that just a day before a homeopathic doctor was gunned by unidentified motorcyclists near Yousuf Plaza in Federal B area.
