The Sindh advocate general (AG) has declared the Hyderabad DIG’s inquiry report on killing of children in Thar due to famine as a conspiracy to destabilise the Sindh government.
A 2-member bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqir took up suo motu notice on killings in Thar for hearing on Tuesday.
The AG, food secretary, health and food and relief secretary appeared in the court during the course of hearing of the case.
While arguing on DIG Hyderabad Sana Ullah Abbasi’s inquiry report, Faisal Siddiqui, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that the government of Sindh was informed about Thar situation on September, 29, 2013. However, the Sindh government issued notification on Sindh situation in February 2014, so 196 children had not died rather they had been murdered.
He further argued that 140 casualties had taken place during 2012 and 2013 in the aftermath of this situation. The AG said this report seemed to be a conspiracy aimed at destabilising the Sindh government. Politics was being played against the government in the guise of affected areas and under the pretext of relief, he said. No such situation was prevailing in Thar as had been narrated in the report, he added.
He prayed the court to adjourn the hearing of this case as the matter was being heard in Supreme Court as well. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 11.
