Taliban accuse govt of ‘reneging’ on deal

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Shahidullah Shahid on Tuesday said the government’s claim of releasing non-combatant Taliban prisoners was contrary to facts.

In a statement, Shahid said the government had not fulfilled even one condition that the militants had presented for a ceasefire, adding that the security forces had also not stopped from carrying out operations against the terror outfit.

He said the Taliban had put forth three conditions to the government for ceasefire and to expedite the talks process. The conditions included establishing a ‘peace zone’ where the militants would not be attacked during direct talks with the government; halting military operations against the Taliban; and release of Taliban’s ‘non-combatant’ prisoners.
