The Sindh Assembly accorded Pakistani Street Child football Team a hero’s welcome when it arrived at guest gallery on Tuesday.
The MPAs paid glowing tribute to them for achieving third position in Street Child World Cup (SCWC) in Brazil after defeating the United States. Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon speaking on the floor of the house congratulated the team and announced Rs 200,000 for each member of the team on behalf of the Sindh government on the directives of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and also announced to establish a street child stadium of international standards.
Sindh Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Nisar Khuhro told the house that education department would educate the footballers free of cost till their post-graduation.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani also felicitated them and said he would request the provincial government to provide them facilities. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s MPA Khurrum Shahzad also announced Rs 10,000 for each player.
Sindh Minister for Social Welfare and other MPAs said that they were proud of them for their awesome performance.
During the session, the assembly passed two private resolutions, first moved by MPA Saifuddin Khalid calling upon the provincial government to equip all its hospitals with latest medical technology, necessary life saving drugs and fully equipped labs to provide basic health facilities to the people in the province. The second resolution tabled by MPA Nand Kumar regarding provision of 8 inch “dia” high pressure natural gas line to improve low pressure of gas in Sanghar.
Speaking on the resolution moved by Saifudding Khalid, Minister for parliamentary affairs Sikandar Mandhro said that the government would make all-out efforts to facilitate common man.
Sikandar Mandhro talking on MPA Nand Kumar’s resolution demanded of the federal government to give the province its due share.
Replying to two queries made by MPA Mir Allah Bux Talpur and MPA Khairunisa Mughal, Information Minister Shajeel Memon said that high level probe into the matter of firing on MPA Talpur’s nephew would be conducted and protested with the federal government for load shedding in the province, respectively.
Answering a question, during questions hour, Minister Mandhro on behalf of Chief Minister who also holds portfolio of Sports’ said that a good number of national and international sport events had been organized by the sports dept. and Sindh sports board in different districts of the province during the period of 2008-13.
He said 392 tournaments were organized in 23 districts of the province during Jan to Dec 2013. In addition the Sports department had also sponsored a number of events during the aforesaid period.
Replying to another question, he said that mini sports complex in Karachi, Sehwan, Larkana and Umerkot had been approved and these projects were likely to be completed in 2014-16.
During the period from 2008-13 the sports department had been instrumental in promoting different cultural games in the province included Mulakhara, Kodi Kodi, Konkey Cart Race and Wanjh Watti, he added. Answering a question regarding the construction of sports stadium in Landhi industrial area he said that the scheme was likely to be completed by the year 2016 and subject to approval of revised PC-I.
Before adjournment of the session national anthem was played to pay tribute to the footballers.
