Sindh Police Inspector General Iqbal Mehmood pledged more incentives for police personnel like plots and Rs 10 million compensation for martyred’s families and said that principal of ‘right man for the right job’ would be adopted while posting officers in the police department.

While addressing all ranks of the Sindh police through first command letter on Tuesday after assumption of charge, the IGP said a plan was under implementation to allot plots to the martyred policemen and 300 acres of land had already been acquired for the purpose.

Similarly, compensation money to the legal heirs of martyred was also being raised up to 10 million for which a summary was being floated to the Sindh government, he further stated.

Declaring the welfare of all personnel his highest priority, the IGP ensured fair, just and helpful dispensation at the hands of their seniors, and said: “I always have remained beholden particularly to those exceptional jawans and officers of the force, who have laid down their lives in restoring law and order”.

The IGP said merit shall be the sole criteria for the posting of officers while highest importance would be attached to honesty and hardwork. Mixing up of police personnel with criminals or patronising criminal activity would not be tolerated at any cost, he maintained.

Iqbal Mehmood said to combat terrorism and menace of other organised crimes, there was a need to put in extraordinary efforts to trace, detect and bring the culprits to book.

Collection of criminal intelligence has to be re-organised efficiently at all police stations, district and regional levels as timely information provides an impetus to crime fighting efforts, he vowed, adding it would be a difficult task to accomplish these goals unless new standards of professionalism, efficiency and commitment to public service were set.
