Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Shoban Khalid said on Tuesday that regional economic cooperation is now the main driver of growth and that is the area where the government is focusing at the moment.
He said that with a focus on regional trade and investment, a high-profile commonwealth conference will be held by the end of this year. This forum will open new avenues of relationship in trade, industrial development and economy between the country he said.
He said that Pakistan is likely to present a bundle of projects before its 10-15 nation delegation fraternity at the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) starting by the end of this year.
Shoban said that with a focus on regional trade and investment, Pakistan will present its bilateral opportunities before business giants, representing a major share of Pakistan’s trade and industry. “Pakistan can be the basket of food for the entire region if all of us put our acts together,” Shoban Khalid added.
He said that the studies on the “National Economic Corridor” project, including motorway and rail link, were underway. “This agreement with China is a hallmark of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government, which will benefit more than 3 billion people,” he added. He informed that after the completion of feasibility reports on all developmental projects new horizons of hope and success will lead to prosperity of both countries.
Shoban said that for the economic development in region, the government is enthusiastic and showing determination to complete this new initiative between two brotherly countries.
To a question ICCI president said trade between Pakistan and India will bring prosperity to the people of both countries. He said that Pakistan Muslim League (N) led government has friendly relations with all its neighbouring countries and has extended full cooperation to promote trade with them.
