Information minister terms overseas Pakistanis assets of country

Overseas Pakistanis are the country’s asset as they contribute a lot to the economy through remittances, said Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistanis living in the United Kingdom, headed by Nadeem Ali, Mayor of London Borough of Waltham Forest.

Pervaiz Rashid said, “It becomes a matter of pride for us when we see any Pakistani attaining an eminent place in a foreign country.” The heart of every Pakistani beat with love for his nation, no matter wherever he lives, he added.

He said the government was determined to ensure good governance and bring the country on the path of peace, progress and prosperity.

The minister said improving communication infrastructure and building roads had always been the top priority of the PML-N government as it not only enhanced connectivity, but also opened avenues to seek economic opportunities, ultimately giving a boost to economy.

It is the beauty of democracy which reflects plurality, represents and accommodates various shades of opinion in the society, he added.

He said the government believed in the independence of media as it considered it a prerequisite for strengthening democracy. It is because of democracy a unique culture of political tolerance had come in vogue, which was unprecedented in the past, Pervaiz said. He urged the overseas Pakistanis to come forward and benefit from the investment friendly policies of the government.

The delegation expressed their satisfaction on the initiatives of the government for the welfare of the people and prosperity of the country.

The delegation also appreciated the level of independence provided to the media in Pakistan and wished that a culture of political harmony might further flourish in the country as it was vital for the growth and promotion of democracy.
