Work on evolving a comprehensive policy for maintaining prices of essential items was underway, said Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yaseen while talking to journalists on Sunday.

He said that essential items were available in “Sahulat” bazaars and Sunday bazaars in abundance at fixed rates.

He said the district administration had been directed to take action against people involved in making artificial shortage of potatoes.

The minister after hearing complaints of consumers regarding unavailability of potatoes directed market committees to properly display potatoes on stalls.

Bilal Yaseen also inspected anti-dengue stalls set up by the Environment department in bazaars where staff of the department was providing information to the people on precautionary measures.

He also directed market committees not to compromise the quality of essential items and prices of items should be reduced after noon.
