ICT admin to launch 7 water supply schemes

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration would launch seven new water supply schemes and upgrade three existing ones to ensure provision of potable water to population in the capital.
Besides, upgrading and rehabilitation, two on-going schemes will also be implemented for which funds amounting to Rs 276.421 million have been allocated in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and are being released on quarterly basis.
According to Ministry of Interior here on Sunday, the proposal for construction, completion of new water supply schemes as well as upgradation and rehabilitation of the existing schemes costs to Rs 101,2.974 million.
The Ministry said during last five years, five new water supply schemes have been implemented whereas eight existing water supply schemes were upgraded and rehabilitated at the total cost of Rs 439.974 million.
In addition, small water supply projects i.e. installation of hand pumps and motorized pump boring have also been implemented during the said period in scattered isolated, dhokes and villages of ICT.
The total population of about 0.7 million, residing in 133 adjacent villages of Islamabad Capital Territory, has access to clean and safe drinking water.
Around 65 villages and towns have water supply schemes in rural areas of ICT while there are 48 total villages where water supply schemes are functional. Out of the above mentioned 65 water supply schemes, 55 schemes are functional whereas 10 are non-functional.
