Mamnoon trusts country’s armed forces

President visits AFIRM, inaugurates Artificial Limbs and Appliances Centre, urges collective efforts to increase rehabilitation services in health sector

President Mamnoon Hussain visited Armed Forced Institute of Rehabilitation Medicines (AFIRM) in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif received the president on arrival at the institute after which the president was given detailed briefing on the role and contributions of the institute in rehabilitating the war wounded soldiers who were rendered disabled during various military operations.

He also inaugurated a State of the Art Artificial Limbs and Appliances Centre there, which will cater to the needs of both military and civilians affected by accidents, calamities, any kind of violence and Improvised Explosive Devices.

The president paid rich tributes to the valiant sons of the soil for displaying extreme courage and determination in fighting all challenges to ensure security of the motherland.

Mamnoon Hussain said the whole nation takes pride in the armed forces and acknowledges their achievements and sacrifices may it be during war, internal security duties or nation building projects across the length and breadth of the country.

During his visit to the institute, Hussain particularly appreciated the standard of facilities and care extended to the patients.

The president also appreciated the concerted efforts of Army for transforming AFIRM into a premier rehabilitative medicine institute with all specialties available under one roof, and welcomed the initiative to expand the scope of the Institute to accommodate more civilian cases.

President Mamnoon Hussain laid a floral wreath at the memorial of martyrs at General Headquarters and offered Fateha.

Later inaugurating the international conference of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation the president emphasized the need that the government, the civil society and the armed forces should  work in unison in areas such as rehabilitation services within the health sector.

He said the rehabilitation efforts and the will of the affected people signify our collective conscientiousness in providing solace to the more vulnerable and needy segments of the society. He appreciated the support of the international community and called for even greater commitment and support towards such noble causes where the objective of efforts is not political gains, but a service to humanity.

The president said the present government is making every possible effort to improve health care facilities and to facilitate people in getting quality health care.
