ISLAMABAD-

The convoy of former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf escaped an explosion on Tuesday late night as it hit the Faizabad Bridge just as the convoy passed by, a private news channel reported.

Musharraf was being shifted to his Chak Shehzad farmhouse from the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) where he had been under admitted for medical treatment since January 3.

Just as his motorcade crossed the bridge, a huge explosion rocked the area.

According to sources, the explosives, weighing four to six kilograms, were planted in a pipeline nearby.

The blast left a one foot deep hole in the ground, added the sources.

No casualties were reported and the former army general arrived at his residence safely.

Police officials have claimed the former president as the prime target of the blast.

A case has been filed in Islamabad’s Secretariat police station against the unknown attackers.

Musharraf was admitted to AFIC on a complaint of heart pain on his way to the hearing of the high treason case against him on January 3.

The former president has been receiving life threat since his arrival in Pakistan in March last year.
He was barred from taking part in May 2013 general elections and was booked for a series of legal cases including high treason.

Militant outfits including the Tehreek-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had vowed to send a squad of suicide bombers to assassinate the former president.

It was the fourth attempt on Musharraf’s life, with the first three occurring while he was in office.

Explosive materials have been discovered twice from the route of Musharraf’s convoy to the court in December 2013.

In March 10, the interior ministry had warned that the former army general was on the target of TTP and Al Qaeda based on a letter sent by the militants to the Punjab Home Secretary.

  1. This is yet another DRAMA by the runaway Dictator, who has been avoiding Court appearance for 5 months, with a number of undetonated bombs on the way and 90 days hideout in military hospital – at taxpayers expense.

His mother's illness is also a big mystery since Pervaiz Musharraf's younger brother, Dr Naved Musharraf, is himself a successful Doctor practicing in Chicago
