Nobody loves the general, not even the army

Aitzaz claims army not interested in saving Musharraf

Country’s military is not interested in protecting ex-president General (r) Pervez Musharraf, claimed senior lawyer and Pakistan People’s Party leader Aitzaz Ahsan while speaking to journalists on Wednesday.

“Musharraf will be tried and the case will reach its logical end,” said Aitzaz Ahsan.

Replying to a question about Pervez Musharraf’s fate, he claimed that the ex-army ruler demonstrated “timidity” so the army “is angry with his attitude and no more interested in protecting him.”

The 70-year-old Musharraf, who was indicted by the Special Court for treason on Monday, seeks removal of his name from the ECL to travel to the UAE to see his ailing mother and get treatment for his own heart ailment.

On the other hand, the ball is now in government’s court as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is holding consultation with his party leaders over whether or not the ex-army strongman should be allowed to leave Pakistan.
