ISLAMABAD-
The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday granted an exemption from court appearance to the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief in a missing person case, a private news channel reported.
On March 24, DG ISI -Gen Zaheerul Islam, was summoned to appear before the court in response to a petition filed by spouse of a missing person, Muhammad Arif.
Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan accepted the application presented on behalf of the ISI DG Lt and granted him exemption after an affidavit was submitted that the Arif was not in the custody of the agency.
Justice Khan, however, did remark the judicial system should not be ridiculed.
“We don’t take pleasure in summoning Director General ISI but nobody appears despite getting 6-week time,” said the high court judge.
Additional Attorney General, Tariq Khosa, informed the court that all parties in the case have filed their responses.
He added that the matter of Arif was under consideration at missing persons’ commission.
The court directed the commission to decide the matter at the earliest and disposed off the case.
