Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram on Tuesday urged the citizens to use Airport Road, Peshawar Road to reach Islamabad during construction period of Metro Bus Project.
Addressing a press conference at Traffic Headquarters, he said great efforts were being made by the traffic police to regulate traffic on Murree Road but without the cooperation of the citizens, traffic load on city roads including Benazir Bhutto Road cannot be controlled.
The CTO said besides enhanced number of traffic wardens, the officials who were performing duties in traffic headquarters, were also deployed on Murree Road and other roads. He said a comprehensive traffic plan had been devised, but the cooperation of citizens was necessary to avoid a traffic mess, mainly on the Murree Road.
He advised the motorists to use Airport Road through Karal Chowk, and Peshawar Road through IJP Road and Golra Mor, to reach Islamabad.
The citizens can come to the city area through Rawal Road, Saidpur Road and IJP Road, during the construction of Metro Bus project, he added.
He informed that CTP in coordination with departments concerned will conduct operations against encroachers aimed at clearing city roads for the smooth flow of traffic to provide relief to the motorists.
The encroachers have been warned that in future cases would be registered against the violators of the rules and no one would be spared. CTP is taking action against encroachers and conducting special operations for the removal of encroachments from city roads aimed at resolving traffic problems of the city, he said.
The city traffic police have also prepared a plan to keep the traffic moving as much as possible while the elevated road will be constructed for the bus service, on the busy Murree Road.
The building work on the project would be completed within a fixed timeframe.
All necessary arrangements, regarding the flow of the traffic, have been made and are aimed at facilitating the citizens, mainly motorists, he said.
In order to mitigate the sufferings of the general public, and to avoid a mess of traffic on the Murree Road, alternative routes have been provided to the traffic, to minimise the load on the busiest road of the city.
