Special staff for Sunday bazaars to eliminate mafia

Provincial Minister for Food and Price Control Cabinet Committee Chairman Bilal Yasin has said that special security staff has been deputed at Sunday bazaars and Sahulat shops to eliminate extortion mafia. He was presiding over a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat Tuesday.

During the meeting a detailed review was taken over government’s steps with regard to controlling inflation and ensuring availability of items of everyday use to the people.

The minister said that availability of daily use articles had been made easy in the markets, following effective strategy and concrete steps taken by the government throughout the province. He directed DCOs to visit Sunday bazaars and Sahulat shops in the afternoons, instead of mornings, so that continuous monitoring of prices could be ensured. He said, prices of everyday items should be reviewed in the afternoon, but no compromise should be made on food quality.

The meeting was informed that latest technology had been introduced at petrol pumps to eliminate short measuring and ensuring its quality.

  1. Sunday Bazars are an outdated strategy to bring down prices. We need urgently to eliminate a chain of middlemen, who contribute mainly to inflation. The Government is well advised to give more time and energy to correcting the marketing system by eliminating a chain of intermediaries and laying more stress on quality by grading at source.
