A delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) led by its Senior Vice President Khalid Chaudhry called on Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and apprised him of various issues being faced by the business community.

Addressing the delegation, Bukhari said that domicile holder of Islamabad was not provided job in any province, but residents of all provinces were employed in the federal government. He said residents of Islamabad should be given preference in federal jobs up to Grade-15.

He said Rent Control Act was a long standing demand of the federal capital, but no government made any serious effort to address this issue. He assured that bill of new rent law will soon be presented in the Senate for its enactment to pave way for cordial relations between the landlords and the tenants.

Speaking at the occasion, Chaudhry apprised the chairman of the various problems of trade and industry. He said businessmen were playing crucial role in improving the local economy, but were facing many issues in running business activities.

He said due to absence of a balanced rent law, traders were feeling insecure as a landlord could force them for vacation of shop by giving a simple notice. He said many private housing societies have developed housing sectors in Islamabad, but CDA laws were not levied on them and people had to comply with two separate building laws in Islamabad. He appealed to the CDA to take over all housing projects in Islamabad for compliance with one building law.
