NA urges ban on immoral TV programmes

The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the government to impose immediate ban on telecasting immoral programmes on private and government TV channels.

The resolution was moved by Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamat -e – Islami. State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmed did not oppose the resolution.

Speaking on the occasion Sahibzada Tariqullah said over 100 TV channel were promoting obscenity and immorality. The airing of immoral programmes was also against the constitution.

Such programmes must be banned and relevant laws should be implemented strictly.

  1. How does the proposed bill define immoral? Is there a provision for depicting immorality in a negative way to illustrate its problems, or is satire provided for? Is polygamy, "honor killings" and other types of murder and warfare counted as immoral?
