Nisar updates Nawaz on Musharraf’s trial

ISLAMABAD

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed the latest development in former president Pervez Musharraf’s trial.
According to details, the meeting took place at the PM’s House on Monday, where Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan briefed the PM about the proceedings of the trial against the former president.
Both the personalities also exchanged their views on the situation after the indictment of Musharraf.
Earlier, the special court, hearing treason case against Musharraf, rejected the plea of the former president to leave the country to see his ailing mother in Dubai.
The Special Court observed it had not enlisted Musharraf’s name in the Exit Control List (ECL). The court said Musharraf could now contact a relevant forum (the Interior Ministry) to get his name removed from the ECL or seek permission to go abroad.
The court said it did not impose ban on Musharraf from travelling abroad. The federal government is the appropriate authority to remove Musharraf’s name from the ECL, maintained the court.
The court remarked that Musharraf abrogated the constitution after imposing emergency in the country in November 2007. Musharraf refused to accept the charges against him.
“I would like to ask where is the justice for me in the Islamic republic of Pakistan … I have only given to this country and not taken anything,” Musharraf said. “I prefer death to surrender.”
The former president had appointed Barrister Farogh Naseem as defence lawyer for the hearing as other lawyers of Musharraf had boycotted the court proceedings.
