India: Pakistani woman detained for overstay

An elderly Pakistani woman has been arrested for allegedly overstaying in the country after expiry of her visa and submitting fake documents for visa extension, police in Kanpur said Monday.

The 70-year-old Surya Khatoon belongs to Karachi and was living in the city even after her visa had expired, they said.

She came to India on December 7, 2013 on a three-month visa which expired on March 7, to see her daughter Tazeen, who lives in Jajmau area in Kanpur.

On the basis of information received from Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) Inspector Anupam Singh, she was arrested yesterday from her daughter’s house.

“The documents produced by her seeking an extension on medical grounds were also found to be incorrect,” police said.

She has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for living illegally in the country and submitting fake documents for visa extension.
