LHC not convinced yet for Taliban’s political office

Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought further arguments from the petitioner on the maintainability of his petition on talks with Taliban and opening of their political office by Taliban in Pakistan.

LHC Chief Justice Omar Atta Bandial heard the petition.

The petitioner Kashif Sulemani pleaded that negotiations with Taliban could not be made successful without allowing them to open their political office in Pakistan. The court should take suo motu notice of the matter for making peace talks successful, he said.

The court remarked that the powers of high court on taking suo motu notice stand dispensed with following Supreme Court decision. The court asked for the law under which courts could interfere in the policy matters of the government.

The court while adjourning the hearing of the case till May 9 summoned the petitioner for further arguments.
