Hunger strike if contractual employees sacked: Shah

ISLAMABAD

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Thursday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to reconsider his decision for dismissal of 60,000 contractual employees or else he along with the workers would stage hunger strike until death outside the Parliament House.
Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly, he said the government was spending Rs 40 billion on the metro bus project but was not prepared to pay Rs 4 billion as salary to 60,000 employees. He said Nawaz Sharif was removed in the past as he dismissed people from service and advised the PM not to do the same mistake.
Shah said the PPP government had regularised the services of 90,000 employees and said had they and their families voted for the PPP, it would have got 18 million votes.
He said on one hand youths were being provided laptops, and on the other hand people are being made jobless. He said they submitted eight adjournment motions but not a single has been taken up. He questioned whether the National Assembly Secretariat considered them as a tissue paper.
He also regretted the government’s decision not to increase the salaries and pensions of government employees in the next budget. He reminded that his government had increased the salaries by 125 percent during its five year tenure.
