Rs 20.5m fee paid to govt lawyers for high treason case

A sum of Rs 20.501 million has so far been paid to government lawyers as fee for engaging then in High Treason case against former president general (R) Pervez Musharraf, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told National Assembly on Wednesday.

In a written reply to the question of Shafqat Mehmood of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the minister said a sum of Rs 10.50 million has been paid to the 12-member Prosecution team and Rs 10 million to 11-member Constitution team.

Giving details of fee paid to the prosecution team, he said the head of legal team, Akram Sheikh has been paid only Rs 999 as fee. He went on to tell the House that Naseerud Din Khan Nayyer has been paid Rs 5,000,000, Sardar Asmatullah, Tayyab Jafri and Ishtiaq Ibrahim have been paid Rs 1,000,000 each and Barrister Natalya Kamal, Barrister Sajeel Sheryar, Mian Moazzam Habib and Ch Hasan Murtaza Mann have been paid Rs 500,000 each as fee. Likewise, Faraz Raza advocate and Haider Imtiaz have been paid 250,000 each.

Giving details of the fee paid to the 11-member Constitution team, he said Tariq Hassan, Ch Muhammad Ikram and Ishtiaq Ibrahim have been paid Rs 100,000 each as fee. Nasirud Din Khan Nayyer, Natalya Kamal, Barrister Sajeel Sheryar and Chaudhry Hasan Murtaza Mann have been paid Rs 500,000 each as fee. Fara Raza and Haider Haider Imtiaz have been paid Rs 250,000 each as fee.

The interior minister said Barrister Sharjeel Adnan Sheikh did not get any fee as member of Prosecution team, similarly Barrister Raheel Kamran and Naeem Qureshi was not paid any fee as members of the Constitutional team.

Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar said implementation on the death penalty had been stopped until a discussion is held between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Nisar further said there were no mercy petitions pending over the death penalty.
