*CM presides over a meeting to review security situation of the province
Maintenance of law and order is the top priority of the government and all out measures are being taken for improving law and order in the province, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while presiding over a high level meeting to review overall law and order situation in the province on Tuesday.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, chief secretary, inspector general of police, secretary home, secretary law, secretary prosecution and other officers concerned were present.
The chief minister said that police should spare no effort for protecting life and property of the citizens and redressing grievances of the aggrieved. He said that huge funds have been provided for improving the efficiency of the police and modern training has also been arranged for its capacity-building.
He said that work is being carried out speedily on the project of setting up a modern command and control centre in Lahore. He said that the centre will help eliminate crimes through modern digital monitoring system. The chief minister further said that the Punjab government has increased the package for the police martyrs to Rs 50 million and the government will discharge its responsibility regarding look after of the families of the police martyrs in a proper manner. He said that free education and health facilities will be provided to the children of the police martyrs and their families will also be provided houses.
The chief minister said that law should come into action immediately to redress the grievances of the aggrieved. He said that the police will have to show better performance and utilise all its abilities and energies for improving law and order. He said that the officials showing negligence and dereliction of duty have no room in the police department. The chief minister further said that Amna Batool case of Muzaffargarh is a test case for the police as the innocent girl had been subjected to extreme cruelty. He said that the family of Amna Batool will be provided justice at any cost and the Punjab government will bear all expenses regarding the case. He said that all legal demands will be met for ensuring due punishment to the culprits.
The story of Punjab still needs an unbiased researcher who has the ability to wash the grime spread by opinionated intellectuals, court historians, old masters and resistance giants.
