Exports of textile products from the country witnessed positive growth of 8.28 percent during the first eight months of the current fiscal year when compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The overall textile exports from the country were recorded at $9.155 billion during July-February (2013-14) as compared to the exports of $8.455 billion during July-February (2012-13), according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The textile products that witnessed positive growth in trade included raw cotton, exports of which increased by 51 percent by surging from $ 108.003 million last year to $163.077 million during current year. The exports of cotton cloths increased from $1,732. 321 million last year to $1,879.059 million during current year, showing an increase of 8.47 percent while the exports of yarn (other than cotton yarn) increased by 19.46 percent by going up from $26.983 million to $32.233 million.
Exports of knitwear increased by 8.42 million by surging from $1,365.774 million last year to $1,480.741 million this year, while the exports of bedwear increased from $1,166.105 million to $ 1,408.677 million, showing increase of 19.83 percent.
Exports of readymade garments increased from $1,154.092 million to
$1,259.925 million, an increase of 9.17 while exports of art, silk and synthetic textile increased from $234.588 million to $251.563 million, showing increase of 7.24 million.
The other textile that witnessed increase in trade included madeup articles (excluding towels and beadwear), exports of which increased by 18.49 percent by going up from $378.837 million to $448.879 million.
The textile products that witnessed negative growth in trade during the period under review included cotton yarn, exports of which decreased from $1,456.389 million to $1,376.984 million, showing decrease of 5.45 percent.
Similarly, the exports of cotton carded or combed decreased by 42.17 percent by reducing from $5.710 million to $3.302 million, exports of towels decreased by 3.50 percent by falling from $504.259 million last year to $486.590 million this year whereas the exports of tents, canvas and tarpulin decreased by 22.93 percent by going down from $73.933 million to $56.981 million, the data revealed.
Meanwhile, on year-on-year basis the textile exports increased by 14.54 percent to $1,131.224 million in February 2014 when compared to the exports of $987.626 million in February 2013.
