PM to address NSS-2014 on Monday

A two-day Nuclear Security Summit 2014 (NSS-2014) will begin in The Hague on Monday (today).
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will lead the Pakistani delegation and address the gathering of world leaders at the NSS.
Nawaz will be accompanied by Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
The PM will address the gathering of world leaders on March 24. He will be one of the keynote speakers at a meeting on the future of the NSS process the next day. The PM will enumerate the measures implemented by Pakistan to ensure safety and security of its nuclear facilities and materials.
In line with Pakistan’s commitment to bridging the country’s energy deficit, Nawaz will also seek non-discriminatory access for Pakistan to nuclear technology for peaceful uses, including nuclear power generation.
As many as 53 countries, including Pakistan and four international organizations, will participate in the summit and present their stance in defence of their nuclear weapons.
It will be the third edition of the conference, succeeding the 2012 NSS. Besides 53 world leaders, some 5,000 delegates and some 3,000 journalists are also attending the event.
Nuclear security involves implementing a series of pre-emptive measures to prevent internal and/or external threats directly or indirectly related to nuclear materials, radioactive sources, relevant facilities or other associated activities.
The moot will chart the accomplishments of the past two years, identifying which of the objectives set out in the Washington Work Plan and the Seoul Communiqué have not been met and proposing ways to achieve them.
Nuclear Security Summit 2014 aims to promote nuclear security through voluntary national actions and international cooperation.
