Sindh to hold LG polls in November

The Sindh government announced on Saturday that local government elections will be held in November this year.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah announced in a meeting on Saturday that preparations for the local elections will begin soon. Sharjeel Memon, Sikander Mendro and Murad Ali Shah were also present in the meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ordered all provinces to conduct local body elections no later than November 15.

The case was heard by a three-member bench presided by Chief Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani.

In February, several members of the provincial assembly called for holding local government elections as soon as possible so as to mitigate administrative problems.

Lawmakers representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) said holding of local government elections and devolving powers to the grassroots level would serve the people.

Many complained that local elections had not been held in a long time, and holding them soon is necessary.
